working class

Working Class is a feature documentary loosely based on Charles Dickens “A Tale of Two Cities.” San Francisco artist Mike Giant and San Diego artist Mike Maxwell discuss the themes of the novel and how they are still relevant today. Both artist’s work are centered around sharply drawn characters inspired by the working class.

Growing up around San Francisco, Mike Giant was an early influence on my artwork. One of the first artist that really got me to notice and appreciate the art of the letterform. I loved his big tags and round, expertly drawn bubble letters. I’ve watched his style evolve over the years while still remaining true to the original “working class” roots heavily influenced classic chola and Mexican tattoo artwork.

Jeff Durkin of BreadTruck Films has been working on this project for over year now, so its great to see it come to fruition. I’ve had the pleasure of meeting Jeff a few times over the last couple of years and he’s a super nice, hard working guy and really talented behind the camera. I wish him the utmost success with this film!

I’m bummed I won’t be able to make the screening at MoPA on the 8th! OK ,so I’ll be in Dublin sipping on a nice cold Gunniess right about the time the movie goes on, so I’m really not going to be that bummed. I would really like to see this in a theater so I hope it comes around again! If you’re in SD, make sure to check it out!
