handplane

I’ve gotten into handplaning over the last year or so and I have to say, it’s pretty awesome. Living on a beach that’s black-balled for most of the day during the summer, it’s a great way to get some water time and beat the crowds, not to mention get sooo pitted. Ha. Had to, sorry. I’m happy to see the resurgence of alternate wave riding in the sport of surfing.

Below are some shots documenting the process of customizing my little wooden handplane that I found on Etsy for $30(!). After sketching my fish I scanned it and fed it through the epilog laser. A really fun process — wish we still had that laser!
